Roles for Volunteers
Below are some ideas of what volunteers can do. This is not a full list-
please contact Louella for more information on 01422 430948.
Help make our Support Groups More Accessible- Become a
Support Group Volunteer
There are a number of Carers Support Groups throughout Calderdale. However,
carers can sometimes be reluctant to attend them. They may suffer from
low confidence and feel that they will not know anyone. The Support Group
volunteer will provide a friendly face and encourage carers to come along.
The volunteer will meet and greet carers at the group, making new carers
in particular feel comfortable. The volunteer may also provide refreshments/lunch
and any other help that may be necessary.
Full training will be given as well as the opportunity to become qualified
in Food Hygiene by following an accredited course to gain the Award in
Food Safety.
The role will give the volunteer opportunities to meet carers and encourage
then to access services that can make a real difference to their daily
lives. Volunteers will gain insight and a wider knowledge of local issues
in addition to a nationally recognised qualification.
Local Doctors want to help carers- Can you help them to help? Become
a GP Link Volunteer
This role will help carers get information and back up support by acting
as a link between the Carers Project and the volunteers local GP Practice.
The role will involve taking receiving and taking information that is
useful to carers to the Practice. It may involve running an information
stand at Practice events and Open Days. The practice may want to refer
carers back to the Project via the Link Volunteer.
Full training on Carers issues and information will be given and volunteers
will be introduced to Practice Staff.
The role will help to broaden a volunteer’s knowledge of events
and activities in the local area and provide them with a valued role in
their own local community. They will have the opportunity to meet carers
and encourage them to take up services that they may previously have been
unaware of.
