In June 2009 Calderdale Health and Social Care published Calderdale Carers Strategy 2009-2012.

It identifies 8 Key Priorities.

• Identifying carers

• Information

• Making sure carers have a break

• Emergency respite care and Back-up Plans

• The health and well-being of carers

• A voice for carers

• Income and employment

• Young Carers

Calderdale Carers Project works with the local authority on these priority areas with the aim of improving its own and the local authority’s performance and supporting carers more effectively. This has resulted in a close working relationship developing between the carers Project and the local authority over the years. The Project and the local authority seek to improve ways of working by managing their different sets of resources efficiently and targeting those areas, whilst maintaining the levels of service already established. As in health, carers cut across many budgets and directorates and the Project is more than happy to inform, advise and work with all areas and teams within the local authority.
