A carer is someone who is looking after a friend, relative or neighbour who cannot manage without help because of sickness, age or disability.
The Carers Project exists for the benefit of all adults who care in Calderdale, whether they are caring for an adult or child, friend or neighbour.

The project has up to date information that can help carers apply for services and grants.
The emergency card system makes sure that the 'looked after' person is taken care of if the carer is taken ill or has an accident.
The Project facilitates support groups.

The carers project has a special fund to pay transport costs and/or for a sitter, to make it easier for carers to attend support groups and events the project arranges eg. complementary therapy sessions.
The Carers Project:

• Provides a contact point for carers
• Gives advice and information
• Maintains an information library
• Facilitates regular support groups
• Supports carers to voice their needs
• Produces a regular newsletter
• Administers an emergency card
• Promotes more appropriate and better services for carers
• Raises awareness about carers issues
• Does outreach work to assist carers who may not have the services they need
• Undertakes consultation exercises with carers.
• Keeps carers informed of changes to services.
