Because carers come from all ages, religions, ethnicities, abilities, cultures and ways of life, they are a significant part of our community. As such, they seek to make the best use of all the services and opportunities that Calderdale has to offer.
It is a fact, backed up by evidence from the National charity for carers, Carers UK, that many carers feel isolated or suffer from a lack of the opportunities that those of us who are not carers benefit from. They may also suffer from physical barriers, such as financial restraints, through to emotional barriers, such as a lack of confidence.
We think Calderdale is a great place to live and work. But in partnership with our funders, we also strive to make it a great place to care.
We believe that all carers are entitled to a life of their own and work with them to ensure that their own needs are met, either on an individual basis, or as a group.
We encourage carers to learn about their community and become involved in all it has to offer.
We have worked with carers and former carers to create volunteering roles for them as well as linking them in to various learning and training opportunities.
We continue to administer a Carers Small Grants Scheme. This is a cash grant that allows carers to have a break and access some of the opportunities that their caring role prevents them from accessing.
For more information please contact us, as this fund is limited and only runs at certain times of the year.
