To find out more or attend one of our Carers Support Groups call 01422 369101.

It is important that you call before attending for the first time.

These groups are run by staff members and are designed to give carers a break from their caring responsibilities. They enable carers to be open and honest about their feelings in a safe and supportive environment. These groups run throughout Calderdale on a monthly basis.

Carers attend the groups for many reasons.

  • For someone to talk to
  • For mutual support
  • To meet other carers
  • To let off steam
  • For relaxation
  • To cry or to laugh
  • To make friends
  • To get and share information
  • To have a break from caring

Each group is different according to what those carers need and want. Some groups of carers prefer to laugh, joke and generally have a break from their caring role. Other groups prefer to discuss or offload the feelings and emotions that their caring situation brings about.

Nevertheless, at times, serious issues can arise. It may be possible to speak one to one with a staff member at the group, but this does depend on availability. Follow up arrangements can be made.

The Project runs Carers Support Groups throughout Calderdale in Halifax, Lower and Upper Valley, Sowerby Bridge.  There is also a specific groups for Asian Women Carers.

Support Group dates and venues for December 2015/January 2016

We have been piloting a Carers Support group on a Saturday morning for some time now. However, numbers attending it have remained too low for us to sustain it.

Therefore, we are cancelling the group with immediate effect so there will be no meeting on Saturday 5th September.
